A Message from Superintendent Tarasevich Concerning Today's Incident at Wakefield Hills

posted Mar 16, 2016, 4:19 PM by James Monti   [ updated Mar 16, 2016, 4:29 PM ]
Good evening,

As many of you are already aware, at approximately 11:00 am  today, there was a bomb threat to Wakefield Hills Elementary School.  As soon as the threat was received, protocols were immediately put into place.  All students and staff were evacuated from the building and emergency personnel were contact.  Within minutes the West Warwick Police Department, the West Warwick Fire Department, and the Rhode Island State Police were on scene.

In an abundance of caution and in order to give the first responders time to ensure the building was safe, buses were called so the students could be dismissed.  Emergency personnel were then able to confirm the building was in fact safe and there was no credible threat.

We would like to thank the students, staff, and parents for their calm, swift reaction to the evacuation. We would also like to thank the WWPD, WWFD and the RISP for their immediate response and support.

It has been confirmed the building is safe and school will be open tomorrow at WHES as normal.

Thank you again to all for your support during this event today and have a good evening.
