Why would I want a Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM)? A CIM is one of the pathways to graduation in West Warwick. It shows that you are proficient in math and writing tasks you have completed. It shows that you have completed an in-depth project in an area of your own interest. What are CIM tasks? As all WWHS students take on-demand CIM tasks as part of their course work in ELA and math, you have taken many of them. You also need to complete an extended task, that is, one that requires research and revision, in math and ELA. You need to meet standard on these tasks. What is a Capstone? A Capstone is project of your choosing. It requires that you select a topic that you are interested and form a core question that you would like to address. Through research and working with experts in the field you develop your project and present your Capstone to a review panel. What are some things students have done as Capstone projects? Students have done these kinds of Capstone projects. *A soccer clinic for 6-8 year old children the proceeds of which went to the Jimmy Fund. *Elementary to Middle School discussion group was designed and implemented to ease transition. *A blood drive was organized and implemented. *A student arts magazine was designed and produced. *Local park improvent was envisioned, designed and implemented. *A presentation for student responsiblily was designed and implemented for prom activities. *A children's book was designed, written and published. The possibilities are endless.
