| Dear Parents,
1. If you need to meet with me or have questions, concerns or information about your child that you think I should know as we start the year, don't hesitate to contact me through this email: lsherman@westwarwicpublicschools.com.
2. Your child will need a homework folder. If he/she doesn't have one, I will provide one. It will need to come back and forth every day with homework, notices and a list of homework I will give them at the beginning of the week listing the assignments. As you or your child's after school caretaker sees an assignment completed, please initial the homework sheet or form (for studying sight words and reading) next to the assignment. That way, I know you or your child's caretaker saw them complete it. If it is not passed in, we will need work together to help your child to get organized.
I recommend helping your child to get into a routine, for example: doing homework right after school, or after a snack or short break period, then when it is done, putting the work and assignment sheet back in their folder and immediately in their backpack to be ready for teh morning. Once it is passed in, I will star or stamp the homework agenda over the assignment so you know the assignments were passed in to me. I have found that once young children know that they will be accountable to both parents and teachers, homework will become a routine for them. Eventually they will need less reminders, as they will become more responsible and independent. In effect, we are working hard now to make them more independent and responsible for the rest of their school career. The focus and getting children into a routine now creates good habits that will make your life easier as your children grow and it will help them to become more successful in school.
3. If you would like your child to have a snack at school during a short snack time, please send one on a daily basis for them.
