We are excited to announce the launch of a BRAND NEW Scholarship Contest for high school students. The We The Students Scholarship Contest opens today and runs through November 16, 2012 - encourage your students to enter today! What role do the ideas of the Constitution have today? What rights should the government protect? To participate in the contest, high school students will answer three questions around the ideas of the Constitution and the role of government. One $4,000 prize will be awarded for first place, one $2,000 prize for second place, and one $1,000 prize for third place. Two $500 prizes will be awarded for honorable mentions. The best part? The United States JCI Senate Foundation has $1,000 grants which will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in the United States who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities, or vocational/technical schools. Applications are available in the guidance office. The application deadline is December 20, 2012. 4. Academic Advantage is offering a $500 grant to a graduating senior in the class of 2013. The RI Society of Professional Engineers is pleased to announce the availability of a scholarship for high school seniors who wish to pursue a degree in engineering. Eligibility: qualified high school students who either have been diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defect(CHD), been the recipient of a heart transplant or has a family member (sibling, child, parent) diagnosed with CHD. Applications will be accepted through February 28, 2013 and are available online only at www.dunkindonuts.com/scholarship. 30. The Aaron and Rita Slom scholarship fund is now accepting applications. Students must submit an interpretive work focusing on the George Washington letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, RI, in context with the present time. The Mario Della Grotta OCD Awareness Foundation ~ Eligibility: seniors who have a documented diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder from a licensed and board certified medical doctor. The KDMF “Victim Relief” Scholarship Fund has a $1000 scholarship available to a senior who best exemplifies the strength, courage, and commitment to triumph over physical, emotional and/or financial tragedy resulting from an impaired driver. The KDMF “Nobody's Glory...Everybody's Gain” Scholarship Fund has two $1000 scholarships available to seniors who best exemplify a positive attitude and commitment to their school community to be “that” person who always steps up and gets the job done, while also maintaining good academic standing. The KDMF “Make a Difference” Scholarship Fund has two $1000 scholarships available to seniors who best exemplify he ability to make a difference in our community through their leadership, commitment and active involvement in the high school's SADD program or other organization that specifically targets substance abuse prevention and awareness and/or decision making. Students must also maintain good academic standing. Applications are available in the guidance office. The deadline is April 26, 2013. 37. The KDMF has a $4000 scholarship available to a Narragansett resident who best exemplifies Katie's qualities of friendship, community service and academic excellence. Applicants should maintain a "B" or better average and demonstrate a strong commitment to extra-curricular activities and community service. Applications are available in the guidance office. The deadline is April 26, 2013. 38. It’s My Heart New England CHD Awareness 2013 College Scholarship Program. Eligibility: To qualify for one of the It’s My Heart New England CHD Awareness Scholarships, the applicant must first meet one of the following requirements: be diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defect; be the recipient of a heart transplant; or be a family member (sibling, child, parent) of a person diagnosed with a CHD.Applicant must also meet these three requirements: be a resident of one of the New England States; be a high school senior with a GPA of 2.5 or higher; and be accepted as an incoming, full-time Freshman at an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university, or technical school located in the United States.It's My Heart CHD Awareness Scholarship applications can be downloaded from the It's My Heart New England website (http://www.itsmyheart.org/community/imh-chapters/new-england) or you can request one from your high school guidance counselor. Applications must be postmarked by March 25, 2013. 39. The AFT Robert G. Porter Scholars Program. Eligibility: graduating high school seniors who are children or legal dependents of AFT members in good standing.The $8,000 scholarship award is paid out over a four- to six-year period, depending on the length of time the recipient will use to obtain a degree. Customarily, the scholarship is paid out through four $2,000 annual payments to the higher education institution attended by the recipient. The AFT Robert G. All completed application forms must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2013. 40. Shire 2013 ADHD Scholarship~ $2000. Eligibility: applicants must be diagnosed with ADHD by a licensed health care provider. Applicants must be attending or accepted to a two-year or four-year college or trade/vocational school. Dion Memorial Scholarship Fund has three $500 scholarships available to any West Warwick High School senior who plans to further their education at any technical/vocational school or college.
