John F. Horgan Elementary School Family Newsletter March, 2012
Dear Parents and Friends, It is with great excitement that I send you this month’s family newsletter. As you know, our statewide testing scores are in, and the results are excellent! We had the highest percentage of improvement in both reading and mathematics in the state! Reading scores improved 15 percentage points and Mathematics improved 13 percentage points. Teachers are very dedicated to their instruction and focus on learning, students are working harder than ever, and your support of your children and our school efforts has been exemplary! I cannot thank you enough for your consistent, hard work in partnership with us all.On Monday, March 12, 2012, the second trimester ends. Report Cards will go home on Thursday, March 22, 2012. This month we continue to have more events to bring parent, child, and school together in one partnership. On March 16th, the PTO will have a St. Patrick’s Day Bingo, on March 21st, we will have a guest chef for healthy cooking at a Parents’ Workshop, and on March 27th, we will sponsor a movie night for grades K and 1. As you know, Kindergarten registration starts Saturday, March 24th from 9 to 12 noon and continues through Friday, March 30, 2012. Please come to register your youngster, we will have our Parent Coordinator present to assist you, also. Any questions about what you should bring…please call the school office any day. Thank you. We are very excited about Saturday, March 31, 2012! We are having the First Annual Horgan Elementary 5K Run/Walk at Riverpoint Park! You may register in advance on www.active.com or at the school office. There is a $20. registration fee for the race. Also, if you would like to come and participate in some children friendly activities at the field, please bring a jar of peanut butter as your admission. It is going to be a fabulous day in honor of children and diverse youth! All townspeople and friends are welcome!
