A Certificate of Initial Mastery

is an endorsement on a student's high school diploma.  It is awarded by the RHODE ISLAND SKILLS COMMISSION.


In order to receive a Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) students need to complete the following:
Two on-demand tasks in English Language Arts
Two on-demand tasks in math
One extended task in English Language Arts
One extended task in math
Two work habits evaluations
A completed Capstone Project

A Certificate of Initial Mastery
certifies that the student is ready for post-secondary education or the world of work. Letters of completion may be attached to a student's resume or college application. The process is also valuable in college or work interviews. It also empowers the student to explore and research an area of personal interest.
