For Students:

Why is a high school education so important?

  • Those who have earned at least a high school diploma will have higher earnings after high school.
  • It is practically impossible to find more than a minimum wage job without a high school diploma.
  • Those who have earned a high school diploma are more likely to have a pension and healthcare.
  • Those who have earned a high school diploma will be more likely to participate in our democratic society.
  • If one does not complete high school they are more likely to have a negative educational, economic and civic impact on society.
  • Take 9th grade very seriously!  It's been known as the "make or break" year for high school students.  Doing well in 9th grade is an indicator for further success in high school!

For Parents:

Why is my role so important in assisting my child in attending and completing high school?

  • Parents are the most important role models.  Even though students expressed desire for possible future careers in entertainment parents are still considered their most important role models.
  • Attendance, starting as early as Kindergarten, is an important indicator of a student being able to complete school.  They need to be in school in order to gain the skills that they need to be successful.
  • Students need discipline and healthy routines from an early age.  Although challenging at times, this will help them to be successful in school.
  • Stay connected with the school.  Try to come in for school events and meetings whenever possible.  Students whose parents have close communication with educators are more successful in school.
