Grade 4 Art Studio Projects |
The 4th grade Art Studio students have been very busy learning about several different cultures and the products that exemplify some of their ingenuity and talent.
We started with the Chinese and the art of paper making. Students became acquainted with Ts'ai Lun the Chinese inventor of paper as they learned the general process and made paper of their own.
Next we visited the Japanese, who have a very interesting way of recording the size and species of that big catch through the Japanese art of fish printing called Gyotaku. These prints are so beautiful that they are often framed and proudly hung for all to see. Our students produced beautiful prints as well with the help of rubber fish models and water base ink.
Finally students took a brief trip to Mexico to visit some of that countries ancient people the Aztecs and Mayans. Students hand built clay pots on which they recorded some of the ancient designs these people used.
As you can see the projects turned out very well and hopefully the students will take away more than the products from this wonderful art enrichment class. |

This new D.A.R.E. curriculum challenges students by having them participate in active learning. The benefit to the students is the strong foundation of decision-making skills that they apply to real life situations about the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and inhalants. These important decision-making skills are acted on through a spiraling set of group and paired activities. The students are actively engaged as they learn how to cope with the pressures associated with adolescence.
The new D.A.R.E. elementary curriculum has been shortened to nine lessons and a culmination. Topic areas are more specific to the needs of this age group, with an emphasis on student progression. While practical, the lessons are also fun. Students make the lessons come to life while practicing new skills.
Each lesson is structured with Goals and Objectives—in order to meet the National Health Education Standards. The format of instruction provides practical information throughout the lessons and allows the students to learn from each other. |

Fancy Nancy/Dapper Dan Celebration |

The students in Mrs.Satchell's kindergarten class celebrated learning wonderful new vocabulary words with a recent "exquisite extravaganza"! Parents, students, and many staff members gathered with fancy "accessories" to see how our youngest students are increasing their knowledge of words. They read several "Fancy Nancy" books by author Jane O'Coonor, which encourage the use of "rich" words in daily language and writing. The children learned over 50 new words! As Fancy Nancy says, "Oh la la.....it was an extraordinary day". |

During our 3 forty-five minute classes, we explore some of the famous Dutch and Italian mid to late Renaissance artists and their magnificent paintings. Small art exercises, bits of history and vocabulary word searches, round out the student's experience as it's laid out on a story board for all to see. |

PENNIES FOR PATIENTS 2009 |
Congratulations to the Greenbush students, parents and staff, who together raised $3,698.00 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Rhode Island. It was clearly shown again this year by your generosity that the Greenbush family continues to help find a cure for the #1 disease killer of children ages 1- 20…leukemia.
Not only did our students learn about Leukemia, Lymphoma and Hodgkin's disease, they learned a valuable lesson about helping others and learned some valuable math skills at the same time.
Sincerely,
Debra Heroux |
